Deepest Principles of the Zodiac
Exercise 3

Each phrase below is one way of understanding the deepest principle of each particular house (but not the only important principle of each house). See the "A Diagram of Planets, Signs, and Houses: Glyphs and Rulerships" to see which house is which (the houses are numbered), and the sign and planet(s) associated with each house. Then see below for how to work with this information.

This simple diagram makes some interesting points.

  1. The qualities of the last six houses (the ones above the horizon) all find their foundation in the house opposite to their own. See if you can understand how this is true in each case. Find the connection between fulfilling each of the first six principles, and the resulting quality that can come about, shown in the opposite house.
  2. All of the first six houses' descriptions start with the letter 's', which is how this diagram naturally came to me. This is fitting, since the first six houses (and signs) are related to primarily to self. The remaining six houses refer to more interesting things that we can have or do when we focus on something for ourselves.

Working with Deepest Principles for Self-Knowledge

  1. Look to the second half of the circle (corresponding to houses 7 through 12).Which of these things do you want to have more of?  Look to its opposite and focus on that. * See note on Joy and Stimulation below
  2. Reflect on the spiritual importance of each principle. Are there any that seem unimportant or unspiritual to you? If so, think about it for a while.

* On Joy and Stimulation:

I realize that some false ideas could come about with regard to stimulation as the foundation of joy, but i also think that there is an important point here. Maybe if we don't feel enough joy in life, we could do something different. We could go outside more, we could appreciate art, we could go for a short trip to do something different. Of course, i'm not saying that joy only comes from stimulation, but i am saying that sometimes it helps to do things that are fun and interesting if we are not feeling happy.
